Surf Trip to Thurso 12th-19th of April

Back from a week's holiday in Thurso with the Surf Club!
Here's what happened:
Wednesday
We went to check out the Cold Water Classics comp and walk around in beautiful nature

The usual evening banter

Thursday's scouting for a surf spot:
Nope, no beach here
Ended up in Strathy were we surfed most days:
Evening arts and crafts, pom pom's in the making:
Friday's cigar-box playing

Saturday
Going to the store in Melvich
Setting up Club BongoBongo in one of the chalets because the boys were too lazy to go to Skinandis (the most northern club in mainland Britain)
The bar
Welcome in

Nocturnal longboarding

Love
Longing
until sunrise

Sunday
We bought cider at a local bar and ran out of there into the wild
And a trip to Melvich beach
Robbie the lobster
Chasing Ed with sticks and stones

I earned my hippie title
We watched the finals of Cold Water Classics,
witnessed the winners spraying champagne

Monday Down time after surf, getting ready for the bbq
The basket master
Playing the field
smelling the sea, looking up
Things heating up
Armed with marshmallows
Playing with fire... (dangerous)

The evening ends with an explosion in the fire and a trip to Halladale Inn

Give me an encore,
when you're on vacation things can stay dreamy

Surfing Hurts

Today I went surfing for the first time with the club. On land everything seemed fine, I could jump up on the board no problem. Then the first wave hit me and i wasn't really prepared so the board tore away from my arm in the current (and now it's getting progressively stiffer and more painful to move). Then I paddle a bit the waves are big and nice, but i keep diving under the waves and they keep smashing up my face. So the pro Jesus gives us two newbies quick tips and I feel motivated to get back in, "hellz yeah" but then the waves are harder and the fin of my board manages to scratch my eye from eyebrow to cheek as well as banging up my chin. I don't know why photo booth makes people look perfect but the scratches don't look that good in real life..
I don't mean to whine but I return home face and arm mangled, and expected to like surfing?
I feel like the sea hates me and is bullying me, punching me over and over again, like a wife beating husband. Who needs a man when you've got the sea?

But of course, I won't give up. I'll keep on trying even if it means I end up looking like a boxer.

AND THE NIGHT ENDS WITH THIS

Great night, Great party, but everything changed when Open Mic was closed, warmed up on Magdalen Green, for what? Well of course for the enjoyment of the peeps around me and freestyling at a party like crazy pretty much from when we got there to when we left (HOURZ). Well Annuka's ukele led absolute majority of it, the freestyle bit was just flowing like a river in perfect ecological harmony. Who knew I could rap? We had a ridiculous flow. If you're lucky enough to have me as a facebook friend you'll soon see a little sample, as we recorded one of our session's in a free room. Or on youtube hopefully?

Plan is to go to Perth tomorrow. But first I want to wake up and eat brunch at the Botanic Gardens and go to the beach in St Andrews, and then Perth in the evening (or the art graduate show?!). Cannot emphasise enough what an amazing time was had in Broughty Ferry today - spectacular!

Night!

My Camera Will Hang Like a Diamond Pendant Around My Neck

I forgot to bring my camera on this splendid day!
I've had loads of photo opportunities and am sad to have missed these shots of Dundee and the pretty people in it! Just came back from Surf Club where Ed, one of the "head surfers" explained the reading wave forecasts... one of the first times surfing was discussed at the Surf Club gathering at the Medina bar? I'm all warmed up for a breezy evening. Now I'm going to say hello to Kirsten who I haven't seen in ages and give her a birthday present!! From now on I will hang my camera bag on my door's coat hanger so I have it with for every little adventure of mine!

Check out the header Chris made on our myspace (but WTF did he do with the font)! He made it using my Photoshop and a photograph I took of his drawing! Don't forget we're playing at Hustler's tomorrow and at the Bread on Thursday for free!

Let's Go Surfing

Fresh-faced before I went out yesterday.

Today I'm back to being skanky-manky.

Yesterday was fun, I came home this morning.
Surf/Stoner Club initiations. Me and this fella Tom lost. So I had to wear a fancy black hat which people continuously complimented me for throughout the night. He wore the pink trousers.

It's incredible how when you think you're pals then comes the several attempts at a kiss.
Not even a kiss? NO. Felt like fourteen again. Fuck's sake, déjà vu, as if I could be more prejudice about males in general at this point. Can't things ever be platonic, you dickheads? I felt like Miss Good Girl personified.

Anyways, it was fun. Allow me to paraphrase: I look like Lily Cole although Lily Cole's not pretty, I'm Lily Cole if she were pretty, basically it's just the ginger hair.

Love - borrowing Jamie's guitar for the night.

Stealing Jamie's guitar again. Playing My Girls, Nun's Litany, Lua and Beg Steal or Borrow. I must know them all by heart by the end of these two weeks, like the back of my palm.

Now I am going to a surf meeting with Alex. Being social is what I need even in times of study.
