Eyebrows are everything

Went for a walk, washed my hair, put on my eyebrows
- it's all you need.
Now I'm going to eat fresh mushroom soup and ryebread.
Let's stay thin!

Uneasy

I've done more on my essay, I want to finish it before tomorrow - I definitely do NOT want to stay up at night pulling an allnighter.

I'm flying home on Monday, taking a flight from Edinburgh at 8:35!! This means I've had to book a cab to Perth at 4:20 in the morning to catch the first train to Edinburgh leaving 05:10 (none from Dundee this early) to then catch a bus from Edinburgh to the airport...

Mood: stressed and uncomfortable but happy because I'm healthy!

Tonight I've got band practice to look forward to, using up some of time we won in Battle of the Bands at the rehearsal studios of S2K, will be practising new songs for our gig at Dexter's on Sunday!

and I aim to eat dinner at a restaurant.

Tuesday 30 March 2010

Well Done!

I just came back from classes and soup, tea and coffee at the Ice Cream Parlour with Kirsty. Oh, if only the weather could be like this everyday so that I could expand my wardrobe of parkas!

Found an inspection note on my bed saying my room is clean!
Yesterday and today's bathroom shot - can you tell the difference?

I Need $$

Well actually I'd prefer £, SEK, DKK or NOK, particularly the latter 3. I've been looking at summer jobs in the UK - and come to conclusion that it's not worth staying here if you want to make quick money - unless you get a dodgy sales job or become a prostitute. And since Denmark and Sweden have nothing online, I'm applying for loads of seasonal temporary jobs in Norway. Norweigans seem friendlier and a lot more relaxed about work, whereas in the UK it's work work work 'til you die, I'm you're boss, can't stop now! So going to do this after my classes today. Only problem is I have to be in the UK minimum two times preferably three between May-August - Beach House are playing 1 June in London, Kings and Coward will most likely be playing at a festival in Forres, Scotland end of July...

Getting Clean

I'm not known for being the cleanest person on campus (but at least I don't smell). Tonight I am cleaning my room for re-inspection because it wasn't clean enough the first time... The report said stuff like "please vacuum for me thank you," "please clean sink thank you" and "please clean mirror thank you". At least they were polite about it. Off I go to sort this mess out!

Smart-Day

Kirsty and I. When I put on my glasses I've got focus.

After paninis (I had 2!), yogurt, a banana, a blueberry muffin, and an episode of Flight of the Conchords, we proceeded to study and exchange notes. We tried to hunt down other people in economics to get their notes, but turns out we actually have fairly complete notes compared to guys that have missed all tutorials and attended one class...

Studying at the Library

Can be fun if you take notes on a laptop - handwriting sucks is often illegible!
If you have a nice lunch break with your study partner - lovely and chatty!
If you fill in each other's gaps of knowledge - you feel like your cheating your lecturer by not being able to attend classes and then have someone else recover all this information for you, it's that good!

(Yes I used the infinity sign as a bullet point, because studying can be infinitely boring otherwise)!
Going to eat a healthy oatmeal porridge breakfast and then hit the library to exchange notes and study!

Back from DCA

Tonight I was wearing my junkie-face,new New Look jacket, vintage leather bag from London

Yet another amazing time with Kirsty! We went to see Michael Moore's 'Capitalism: A Love Story' which is from the angle you expect it to be, but still very well made and articulate, and it highlights many simple things that screwed over the American economy, you never realised how bad it was (at least how Michael Moore and many others spin it). Highly recommend it! It is obviously biased but there are plenty of juicy facts in there to justify the bias!

Then we had a wonderful beer/cider each poured from the fine tap of DCA. Everything is so nice and polished in here - love it! And the staff 'has got talent' (this is how the Scottish phrase it). I'm coming here a lot more often. For dinner, drinks, gallery opening, hot guys - you name it.

Then we went on to Tonic to see Sarah Coloso perform her last song. Down the drinks! Now I'm home it's sleepy time.

Sunday 28 March 2010

This video is so mesmerising it's hard for me to continue writing my essay. I'm on a mini-break.

Grey Day

Soar throat, it's 'summertime', that's why it's so late, I'll have to adjust!
Today I'm indulging in more of my favourite food - soup! And going to do more on my macroeconomics essay. Tonight I want to eat dinner and catch a movie at DCA. That would be lovely.

Soup and cream cheese toast is so much better

I got prettied up for Kirsty.

After downing two glasses of White Storm cider, Kirsty and I head out of the building to go to Underground. It's too cold - it's not happening. We stay in, I make cup-a-soup asparagus soup adding yogurt and spices in it, and toasts with herbal cream cheese. (Everything is low fat - I'm staying healthy and I don't want to get fat)! Kirsty loves it! Then we proceed to watch High Fidelity, Kirsty bails half way through, can't blame her, I just finished it now this late an hour (for the fourth time). Ah, a film of comfort. Night.

Hitting Underground

Going out after (delicious) soup at the Icecream Parlour and 5 hours in the Speedwell Bar. Now Kirsty and I are wiping our sweat off and going off to find lifepartner in Underground!

Snaps through the day, at the Ice Cream Parlour and Speedwell Bar - both have amazing wallpaper. A tasty day filled with sunshine, fantastic parsnip carrot soup, banana sundae, free bag of scones and thirst-slaking beer:

First Sunshine of the Week

View over Seabraes, second picture shows the beginning of Magdalen Green - picnic perfect!

Today I woke up early because I forgot to close my curtains, so I woke up 6:30. Which is okay considering I fell asleep relatively early last night, after I was free to go when my flatmate Alex left to party. Soup and green tea is the cure! Flight of the Concords is also health magic.
I think I am to spend the day studying, strolling down Perth Road thrift stores, walking in parks, maybe having a red wine-baguette-picnic in one too? Then maybe tomorrow my cough will be gone.

Curing the Illness part II

Spent a total of 7 hours at Wetherspoons yesterday - but their leather couches really are as 'comfy as butter'. I bought three coats today, a baby blue top, a pair of black jeans and a necklace. This is not made better by the fact that I bought three dresses on Wednesday (I wore one of them at Wednesday's gig). But as long as I keep it high street and spend next to nothing on food I'm good!

Tonight I'm staying in so I can save money and get well.

Thursday 25 March 2010

Still here. After waffles with ice-cream and berry compote we're now sipping the booze and dreaming about sunny days and a picnic with cheese, hummus, baguette, fruit salad and red wine!

Curing the Illness

At the 2 story Wetherspoon's in town with Kirsty the second day in a row, indulging in yet another 3 course meal together! Oh who needs a boy, when you can have Kirsty and curry!?

Fever Ray

And I'm sick again.
It's all the action.
So far I've managed to stay 'healthy' for gigs.
I'm planning to keep it that way.
Ugh. Ugly Betty and cheese sandwich, take care of me, make me better!

Tinnitus

One month gig anniversary at Chambers - 5th gig. Photos taken by Laura using my cam.

The gig today went well - better then Monday, but we barely anyone was there, because they left after the third band when I put on Beach House. Dear, is Beach House the reason to all this? We're going to rock our socks off at Dexter's on the 4th of April.

London Summary

Friday the 19th - Monday the 21st of March.

Went to London, crashed at Ed's. I brought beer and crisps. We went to a pub. Went back. Sleep. Wake up, study, go shopping in Portobello, chat to Jelena for an hour or so until she gets off work (American Apparel). Her place is "rat infested" and her room mate is annoying and her place is horrible, so maybe it's best if I ask Ed if I can stay the weekend. I hop on the bus from Notting Hill to Westbourne Park and dump my shopping asking Ed in front of his bassist I just met if this "would be possible" - embarrassing. He was kind as usual and said yes. I hopped on a bus to Camden with J who was feeling rather icky, so we went to our favourite pub in Camden - Lock Tavern and had a few sips. Ed said they weren't going to Camden, instead ordered me to buy falafels for four. I joined him and the bassist in the flat across Ed's - 3 Senegalese guys showing some lovely music.

The next day I met up with my old childhood friend Erica who I literally hadn't seen in years. We went to Brick Lane, checked out the vintage market et al, I got some dark purple Docs (now realising they're a size too small), sipped tea, enjoyed the sunlight, I bought loads of lovely market food and sipped some more tea. Below is the transition from Brick Lane to Spitalfields where they have amazing 'clean food' - nothing dodgy. Amazing day. Finished it off with wine and the IT Crowd. The next day I said bye bye to this fabulous place to return to Dundee.

Tuesday 23 March 2010

Today I Have a Fever

and my voice is rough and phlegmy as never before. Hopefully it will recover for tomorrow, for the gig at Chambers. I hope the barman's remembered to get Beach House!

Yesterday, after befriending a lovely man called Donald on the train, who's playing Beauty's dad in the musical Beauty and the Beast at the Whitehall Theatre (Dundee), I ran to the Underground where musicians were in panic - nothing was ready. Then someone brought an extension lead with turned out to be the solution to all problems. We played first, I danced, they clapped. The crowd liked us. Other bands were tighter than us, but we technically came tied first place, it was up to the shout of the crowd. The other band came first, they had a bigger fan base that we can't compete with after having only played 4 gigs.

I'll write a weekend summary later today when I'm cramming for the accounting exam tomorrow...

Back in Dee, Straight to Battle of the Bands!

It went well we got 2nd place! goodnight!

Sunday 21 March 2010

London Fun

Had an amazing time at Brick Lane with Erica! Such a great time and so lovely to socialise with a person who's into health too! But shouldn't get too used to it since I am going back to Dundee tomorrow... But I'm coming back in end of May/ 1st of June (Beach House is playing at Heaven)!!! Already looking forward to it, that and a picnic in Hampstead Heath!

I really have to push to get into Edinburgh, make my grades sparkle and shine! I think I've lost my chances ace-ing Psychology though..

Going home from London, I take with me a huge silvery pleather bag and a shiny bikini 'tube' from AA, A messenger leather bag from Absolute Vintage and a pair of dark purple Docs from the vintage market in the Old Truman Brewery.

What a well needed break this has been, it's really cleared my head - now I know what to do.

Brick Lane

Meeting a childhood friend at the market, where they're having an 80 % sale on designer accessories! And it's not raining today (- yet)!

Posting pictures later if I have the balls to take them in the first place - I don't want to look like a tourist!

Saturday 20 March 2010

Settled in London

Did I just spend an hour on my hair? At my friends flat, in the mess that is the 'lounge'

So, everything went well on the train, the middle aged business men said that I should join them at the "most expensive Chinese restaurant in the world" in SoHo, since it's owned by their friend who's serving for free. That was awkward. They apparently thought it would be fun to embarrass their friend by me bringing along loads of people. Yeah, that joke was on me.

When I arrived I applied makeup because let's face it, after a six hour train journey, I'm really not that good looking! I dropped off my minimal baggage at my friend's, we ran to an electronic store and then to a pub. All this in Queensway. Then we went home and got drunk on the beer I had brought as a thank you-present. Then I didn't fall asleep so I took loads of pictures of the room and some of my tired self.

Today my friend is at work, and guess what, oh - I am at work! I actually managed to study and start my economics essay on the train. It's due in two weeks, I am proud of myself! Studying some more accounting, then I am hitting Portobello to check out the awesome vintage store 'Relic' and buy an acid wash tee at American Apparel. Next, if I have time, I'll go to Topshop and Urban Outfitters on Oxford Street.

Now I am going for some food, hitting the books, and I'm off!
